NYSC Foreign Graduate Trainee Requirements

Academic Qualification Requirements

For foreign-trained graduates to register and be mobilized into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the following original documents and photocopies are required:

• Original and photocopy of your first university degree or HND certificate.
• Complete the official transcript of your degree or HND course.
• Mark sheets are required for graduates from Indian universities.
• O’Level certificates which can include WASC, GCE, SSCE, NECO, IGCSE, GCSE, or high school diploma (for those educated in the USA).
• Original Certificates (online printouts are not accepted in place of original certificates).
• Candidates must have credit passes in at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics, obtained in no more than two sittings.
• Those who completed a ‘top-up’ program must upload their foundation certificate (e.g., APTECH, OND, NIIT, INFORMATICS).

Medical Professionals

• Doctors and Optometrists: Must provide proof of completion of horsemanship and a registration certificate with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria or the Optometrists Association of Nigeria.
• Pharmacists: Must show evidence of completed internship and a registration certificate with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria.
• Nurses: Required to present their original license and certificate of registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
• Medical Laboratory Scientists: Must provide their license and certificate of registration with the Medical Laboratory Scientists Council of Nigeria.

Travel Document Requirements for NYSC Registration

Graduates must provide a Nigerian international passport that clearly shows the following for registration:

• Entry Visa to the country of study.
• First Departure date you first left Nigeria for your studies.
• Return date you returned to Nigeria after your studies.

How to Apply for NYSC for Foreign Graduates

Take the following steps to apply:

• Visit the official NYSC website via https://portal.nysc.org.ng/nysc1/ and complete your application.
• Register an account by providing an email address and choosing a passcode and Nigerian phone number.
• Scan and upload your documents like: 
• Verification letter from the Ministry of Education for your institution.
• Your HND certificate (or first-degree certificate) and transcript.

• A copy of your International passport.

Steps to Take if You Lose Your International Passport

If a prospective Corps Member loses their international passport, they must obtain the following:

• A police report from the police in the country where the passport was lost.
• A report from the immigration authority in the same country.
• A legal document declaring the loss of the passport.
• Proof of your residence in the country of study.
• Apply for and obtain a new international passport.
• Upload the personal data page of the newly issued passport.

Steps to Take if You Lose Your Academic Credentials

If you lose your academic credentials, you need to obtain the following:

• A report from the police regarding the loss.
• A legal document confirming the loss of your credentials.
• A confirmation of your results from the relevant examination body (for lost O’level certificates) or from your graduating institution (for lost degree or HND certificates).

Note:  If your certificates are not in English, you must have them translated at either the embassy of your study country or at a Nigerian university that offers the language. This must be done before you present them to the NYSC.

Important Notes for NYSC Registration

• Those with a Diploma of Higher Education or Higher Certificate of Education cannot register.
• Attestation letters and statements of results are not accepted in place of a degree or HND certificate.
• NYSC can verify any questionable institution or document with the Federal Ministry of Education.
• Married women will be assigned to their husbands’ states if they provide their marriage certificate, husband’s ID, and name change evidence.
• All foreign-trained graduates must have their credentials verified at the Orientation Camp and should not be sent home until this is completed.
• Corps members relocating must show proof of credential verification before registering in the new state.
• Certificates from Oxford Brookes, professional courses, correspondence courses, and online courses are not accepted.
• Scanned copies, online printouts, or photocopies of credentials are not accepted.
• Exempted foreign graduates must present their credentials and international passport for verification at NYSC headquarters in Abuja to get an Exemption Certificate. Those excluded must do the same for an Exclusion Letter.
