UNILORIN Postgraduate Admission Requirements

Candidates must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the Postgraduate program:

  • Postgraduate Diploma Degree Programmes: Candidates applying for Postgraduate Diploma degrees must have a Third class (honors) degree.
  • To apply for Ph.D. programs at UNILORIN:  Candidates must hold a Master’s degree (such as M.A., M.Ed., M.Eng., M.Sc., LL.M., M.Comm.H., or M.P.H.) with at least a 60% grade or a good GPA. The duration of the Ph.D. program is 3 to 4 years for full-time students and 4 to 5 years for part-time students. Some courses may be required during the program, and students must complete a thesis to graduate.
  • To apply for the M.Phil/Ph.D program: Candidates must have a Master’s degree with a GPA between 55% and 59.99%. This program is only available for full-time students and lasts between 1 to 2 years. After completing research, students must submit a dissertation. At the end of the first year, students may be considered for a transfer to the Ph.D. program if they score at least 60%.
  • Master’s degree programs (such as M.A., M.Ed., M.Eng., M.Sc., M.Com.H., LL.M, and M.P.H.) at UNILORIN take 2 to 3 years for full-time students and 3 to 4 years for part-time students. These programs are primarily course-based, and students are required to complete a research project and submit a dissertation at the end of their studies.

Note: The postgraduate session at UNILORIN lasts for 12 months, starting on October 2nd and ending on September 30th of the following year. The 12-month period begins as soon as a student registers for their program.
